If you’re looking to immerse yourself in the breathtaking coastal beauty of South Carolina this winter, the limited Barrier Island Birding Excursion – Mud-Flats, Shell Banks, Inlets and Sandbars is an unforgettable way to connect with nature. Guided by local Master Naturalist and avian expert Nicole Marie Pettinelli from the Charleston Bird Club alongside experienced naturalists from Barrier Island Eco Tours, this four-hour adventure is timed perfectly around low tide to maximize your chances of spotting a dazzling array of shore and wading birds, waterfowl and raptors. Departing from the Isle of Palms Marina, participants will explore tidal flats and shifting sandbars from a comfortable covered pontoon boat, binoculars highly recommended!
This guided excursion isn’t just about birdwatching, it’s a full sensory experience of a dynamic barrier island ecosystem. In addition to expert insights into the unique habits and habitats of coastal birds, you’ll have an opportunity for a picnic on Capers Island and even a walk along the rugged “Boneyard Beach,” where the natural beauty of the Lowcountry continues to amaze.
