Bald Eagle Spotting…

Screen-Shot-2013-04-30-at-1.59.46-PMWe often visit the same destinations multiple times a day, month or even once per year- only to wait for the oppertune moment that makes the venture there and back worthwhile.

In this instance, Captain Robert Hopkins gave his account from a trip earlier this week. The bald eagle spotting was not only worth writing about, but reminded us that we take the journey for the fleeting moments that nature doesn’t give us a warning for, but we understand and appreciate it’s beauty all the same.

… sitting on the boat at the beach today with a few customers who were resting and asking questions when the pair of mature bald eagles suddenly appear over the marsh and circle around each other. They circled 2 or 3 times and then one flew towards what I first thought was an osprey before realizing it was an immature eagle. It appeared as if the mature eagle may have been following or chasing the younger one as they flew off over the island. Meanwhile the other mature eagle came and perched on top of the pole there at the inlet. It had all happened so fast and we all looked at each other to confirm that we had seen it and then saw that everyone on the beach was looking at or photographing it as it perched and seemed to survey the island. – Robert Hopkins, Barrier Island Eco Tours
