Community Events: LENS, IOP Rec, and CCA!
What a Week for Community Events!
This week has been an incredibly exciting one for community events we’ve had the honor of participating in!
Monday, May 12:
We joined the LENS Foundation of Isle of Palms for their Neighborhood Block Party at Islander 71! LENS, which stands for Law Enforcement Neighborhood Support, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening the bond between first responders and the community.
We offered short teaser eco tours and brought a touch tank with live (caught and released!) marine specimens. It was such an awesome event to be part of!
LENS’s mission is “to enhance public safety and community well-being by supporting our local first responders through education, outreach, and financial assistance.” Learn more about what they do here.
Tuesday, May 13 at 5 PM:
We’re excited to be partnering with the Isle of Palms Recreation Department to lead adult programming classes!
Tonight’s session will feature our very own Parker Gibbons, who will teach a FREE class on cool coastal fossil finds—you won’t want to miss it!
The Recreation Department offers a variety of adult programs designed “to promote wellness, skill development, and community engagement.” You can find more information about the programs here.
Remember—these classes are FREE!
Wednesday, May 14 at 6 PM:
We’ll be attending the Coastal Conservation Association’s (CCA) annual banquet for their East Cooper Chapter.
Founded in 1977 by recreational anglers in Texas concerned with declining fish populations, CCA has since expanded to 17 coastal states.
Their mission is “to advise and educate the public on conservation of marine resources,” and their objective is “to conserve, promote, and enhance the present and future availability of those coastal resources for the benefit and enjoyment of the general public.”
