SC 7-ACE Basin

The ACE Basin is one of the largest undeveloped estuaries on the East Coast, where the Ashepoo, Combahee, and Edisto Rivers meet before flowing into the Atlantic Ocean. Spanning more than 350,000 acres, this remarkable landscape is made up of salt marshes, tidal creeks, maritime forests, wetlands, and barrier islands that provide habitat for countless species of birds, fish, reptiles, and mammals.

There are countless ways to experience the ACE Basin. Explore the scenic trails and observation tower at Donnelley Wildlife Management Area, look for alligators and migratory birds at Bear Island Wildlife Management Area, or wander beneath the live oaks and visit the iconic driftwood beach at Botany Bay Heritage Preserve and Wildlife Management Area.
